Baha Mar Plans a New US$700 Million Bahamas Hotel

The resort operator says it will break ground on a new beachfront hotel within months, once final permits clear.

Baha Mar, the mega-resort operator in Nassau, says it will break ground on a new US$700 million beachfront hotel within months, once final permits are cleared. It would be a fresh expansion of one of the largest tourism developments in the Caribbean.

For The Bahamas, a US$700 million commitment is a vote of confidence in the country's tourism engine at a time when several neighbors are working to defend their own arrival numbers. Foreign direct investment of this scale is both a jobs story and a signal to other developers weighing the region.

The Ledger notes the project is announced rather than under way, and will confirm the permit status and the groundbreaking when they are set. The number and the intent are on the record; the shovel is not yet in the ground.
