CCRIF pays Jamaica record US$91.9m after Hurricane Melissa
The region's catastrophe risk pool made its largest payout ever after a Category 5 storm, and Melissa also triggered Jamaica's US$150 million World Bank catastrophe bond.
The Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility paid Jamaica US$91.9 million across its tropical-cyclone and rainfall policies, with the first US$70.8 million released inside its 14-day target. Melissa made landfall around 28 October 2025.
The storm also triggered the island's US$150 million catastrophe bond backed by the World Bank. The payouts are the clearest working example yet of the pre-arranged climate finance the region has argued for.
