Guyana's oil economy outruns its own forecasts once more
The IMF keeps Guyana among the fastest-growing economies on earth, with output past 900,000 barrels a day and the non-oil economy expanding near 14%.
Real GDP grew more than 19% in 2025, on top of average growth near 40% across 2023 and 2024, the IMF said. Offshore production passed 900,000 barrels a day by year end, a 35% rise, while the non-oil economy expanded about 14%.
The Fund projects roughly 7% average non-oil growth over the next five years, with inflation at 3.3% and unemployment down to 6.2%. The question is no longer whether Guyana grows, but whether the growth builds a country or a cautionary tale.
