Ali re-elected in oil-rich Guyana as the boom rolls on
President Irfaan Ali and the PPP/C won a second term in September, extending their governance of one of the world's fastest-growing economies.
The PPP/C took 36 of 65 seats with 55.3% of the vote, a gain of three seats over 2020. Ali was inaugurated on 7 September 2025 after the official declaration.
The vote came with the economy having grown 43.6% in 2024 on rising ExxonMobil-led output. The mandate hands the government the harder task the boom has always implied, turning oil into lasting development.
