Caribbean states race for a US$250m loss-and-damage window

The Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage opened a pilot grant programme under its Barbados modalities, with fifteen Caribbean states eligible before a mid-2026 deadline.

The pilot, worth US$250 million, carries a 15 June 2026 application deadline. A preparatory workshop co-hosted by the Caribbean Development Bank ran in Bridgetown in May 2026. Eligible states include Jamaica, Dominica, The Bahamas, Barbados, Haiti, Guyana and Cuba.

The push builds on the Bridgetown Initiative's call to reform climate finance. The region estimates it needs about US$14 billion a year to meet its climate financing needs, so the window is a test of access as much as ambition.
