Duggins Salutes a Banner Week for St. Kitts and Nevis, in Cricket and in Football
The Minister of Sports praised Jahzara Claxton, fresh off a Player of the Series run with the West Indies Women, and Tiquanny Williams, the Sugar Boyz forward carrying the national attack in the Nations League.

The Minister of Sports, Hon. Samal Duggins, has hailed two young St. Kitts and Nevis athletes, the cricketer Jahzara Claxton and the footballer Tiquanny Williams, after a stretch of results that carried the Federation’s name well beyond its shores. In remarks on October 8, Duggins said the pair had shown "talent, discipline and competitive spirit that continue to carry the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis proudly" (St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Sports, reported by Nevis Pages).
Claxton had the louder week with bat and ball. Playing for the West Indies Women in a three-match Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe, the 20-year-old from St. Kitts was named Player of the Series as the West Indies won 3 to 0, finishing with 73 runs and seven wickets across the three games (Cricket West Indies).
Her best came first. In the opening match she was named Player of the Match for an unbeaten 31 with the bat and two wickets for 16 with the ball, then took three wickets for 14 in the second game. The series caps a fast rise for a player who became the first Kittitian named to the West Indies senior women’s team, who has since been included in the regional squad for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, and who has been drafted by the Trinbago Knight Riders for the 2026 Women’s Caribbean Premier League (Cricket West Indies; Nevis Pages).
A forward carrying the Sugar Boyz
Williams made his mark on grass. The forward has scored the bulk of St. Kitts and Nevis’ goals in the Concacaf Nations League, League B, Group C, with a hat-trick against Grenada, a brace against Bonaire and strikes in both matches against Cuba. The Ministry credited him with eight of the Federation’s ten goals across its first four games in the competition (St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Sports).
"Keep pushing, keep representing, and keep making the Federation proud," Duggins said, addressing both athletes.
For a two-island state, producing a cricketer bound for a World Cup and a forward leading a national team’s attack in the same week is the kind of return small sporting programs are built to chase and seldom see arrive together. Claxton’s form points toward the T20 World Cup, where the West Indies will measure themselves against the best in the women’s game. Williams’ goals keep the Sugar Boyz alive in their Nations League group, with the back half of the campaign still to play.
The Ledger will follow both campaigns to their finish. For match-by-match results, our daily scoreboard carries the Federation’s fixtures as they are played.
